Angies Boomchickapop Popcorn Review and Giveaway

About Angie's

A select few ingredients are carefully chosen and popped fresh, batch by batch, in Mankato, Minnesota. It’s how Angie’s started, and they intend to keep it that way!

Led by founders Angie and Dan Bastian, 150 or so others now help make the magic and the popcorn happen on a daily basis. Together they make 80,000 bags of popcorn daily.

They are always testing new flavors and putting out their absolute favorites as limited editions or new products. And, as always, Angie personally tastes and approves every new product that leaves the building!

Boomchickapop also came along as the little sister to Angie’s kettle corn and popcorn. Like many siblings, they were born in the same place and to the same people, but with distinct personalities.

My Thoughts

First off, I am proud of myself for starting to like popcorn as of late. It is a much healthier snack as compared to chips, and it is a lot more satisfying as well. Since popcorn tends to have low calories, I feel contented when eating a serving size. Chips always seem to leave me wanting more..those tricksters! Since my Angie's Popcorn discovery, I have rarely touched a chip, and actually find myself to be snacking less. With Angie's, it was love at first bite. They sent me several varieties of their Boomchickapop for my family and me to enjoy. I was pleasantly surprised by how uniquely flavorful their popcorn was. Despite having similar names and qualities of other brands of popcorn, they are much different. Angie's just seems to take it to another level when it comes to popcorn. They know their stuff!

My first Angie's experience consisted of their Sea Salt Popcorn.

I thought, "If they can't pull of regular ole popcorn, they can't be trusted with the other flavors." Boy, was I in for a surprise! Not only did Angie's meet my "normal popcorn" standards, they surpassed it! This popcorn is so light in every way; flavor, texture, calorie count! Seriously only 35 calories PER cup!? Get outta here. I could just about eat the entire bag and not feel bad about it. Well, not too bad about it anyway. This lightly salted popcorn satiates my salt cravings while not loading me up on sodium. I think this popcorn would make the perfect vehicle for DIY popcorn balls, drizzled popcorn, or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. It is awesome to know that this popcorn contains but a few ingredients: Popcorn (no way!?), Sunflower Oil, and Sea Salt! Just like if I made it from home (but Angie's tastes better, and is as easy as opening a bag.) Speaking of bags, I love the texture of Angie's popcorn packaging. So smooth and crisp. Angie's truly is unique in every way.

The Sea Salt Popcorn left me craving something a touch sweeter. What better thing to try next than Angie's Lightly Sweet Popcorn. To me, it tastes very much like the above mentioned popcorn with a sweeter twist. This popcorn really delivers! I mean, c'mon. It is the perfect all around snack. I have enjoyed it by itself, as a small snack with a cup of coffee, and even sprinkled on ice cream. The sweetness is perfect, never too subtle yet never overpowering. Even the BF who claims to dislike kettle corn (who can dislike kettle corn!?) likes Angie's Lightly Sweet Popcorn. Luckily I was sent two bags because between my entire family, this won't last long.

Oh my goodness. Angie's White Cheddar Popcorn was a hard one to put down.

They took their infamously low-calorie popcorn and added real cheese, making an insanely good snack. As I type, I can see the bag sitting across the room, calling out my name. Oh Angie's, what have you done to me!? Bringing back memories of those silly festive popcorn tins with the cardboard dividers, separating the 3 flavors of hard to enjoy popcorn. The white cheddar was always my favorite, making those tins not a complete let down when given one (plus, I always reused the canister!) I specifically remember a Power Puff Girl popcorn tin I received one year, it had a checkers set on the top. I don't even remember the popcorn that was inside it. Left to get stale while I used the can as a small table, no doubt. If only Angie's had been in that can, I bet I would have remembered it all to this day. Their popcorn is really that good. Especially this one. The cheddar was almost looked over during my first handful, but boy did I notice it the second time around. That cheddar packs a punch, and leaves my taste buds smiling.

WHHAATT!?? The two best Boomchickapop popcorn flavors team up to double team your taste buds in this classic Caramel and Cheddar mix. Why these two flavors aren't sold individually is beyond me, but I love them either way. I find it helps to shake the bag a bit as the caramel popcorn is heavier, and tends to hide at the bottom. When shaken up, each handful provides the perfect mix of savory, salty, and sweet. The cheddar is instantly obvious that it is not artificial. It tastes like cheese! And the caramel is not ridiculously hard like other brands tend to be. I could eat this mix for every meal (but I promise not to do that everyday). I always knew it was possible to make caramel popcorn without corn syrup! Thanks Angie's for setting the new standard in popcorn making. At least in my book.

Man oh man, was I grateful to try Angie's Holidrizzle Popcorn. Angie likes to create wonderfully unique flavors for the holidays, and this is one of them. I got to try the Dark Chocolatier Sea Salt Kettle Corn. They also have a White Chocolatier Peppermint Kettle Corn that I did not get to try. I jumped on the Angie's Holiday bandwagon a bit too late, unfortunately. I sure know I will be one of the first in line next year waiting for a batch! Despite not being a peppermint fan, I think I would enjoy it. Angie's seems to have changed my mind about a lot of things since trying it for myself. The Dark Chocolatier is so delicious. It reminds me of homemade, chocolate drizzled popcorn (without the mess!) If I had to choose, this would probably be my favorite Angie's product (though to be fair, I have not tried them all.) I was a bit selfish with this bag, and only allowed the BF to try a little. The rest of the family has been kept in the dark. As much as I love Angie's, some secrets are just better when kept to yourself..

So, if you couldn't tell from the paragraphs above, I LOVE Angie's Popcorn. I hope to get to try their Kettle Corn some day, as I have not yet seen it in stores despite it being the product that started it all. I look forward to enjoying Angie's for many years to come. It has been a long journey, but I have finally came to love popcorn. Being GMO free, rBST free, and containing nothing artificial, Angie's has made snacking a whole lot easier.
